Uganda
has been called the "Pearl of Africa" and is now slowly opening up again to the world of tourism. While most people think of Uganda as a place to track mountain gorillas, for the discerning African traveler, there is much more.

Tracking gorillas in the impenetrable

these magnificently peaceful creatures
is a highlight of a trip to Uganda.
A LUSH AND BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY
The plentiful rainfall creates abundant green vegetation and forests, and sources of fresh water, such as Lake Victoria and the Nile River which provide congregating sites for waterfowl and other animals. This is a birdwatchers paradise with incredible numbers and species of rare birds such as the whale-headed stork. In addition to the bird life, there are beautiful parks of open grassland, such as Queen Elizabeth National Park, and dense tropical forests, like Bwindi, that only a few tourists have visited.

In addition to vehicle game drives and forest treks, one has the opportunity to boat on the Nile River to the base of Murchison Falls. This is a great way to get close to the plentiful wildlife that come to drink and all the aquatic animals and birds that line the banks.

Hippos

animals line the Nile River banks.
During three weeks in Uganda, we saw over 500 species of birds, tracked chimps and gorillas and had most of the parks completely to ourselves. A good guide is of utmost importance to point out the birds, primates and other small special forest creatures. We can help one choose a suitable itinerary and arrange for a professional guide to escort the trip.

Ferryboats
Ferryboats are sometimes the only way to cross the Nile River.
Chimpanzees
The forests of Uganda are one of the few places in Africa where one can track and see chimpanzees in the wild, and if lucky, 8 other species of primates, making this one of the most diverse primate destinations in the world.

POSSIBLE SAFARI COMBINATIONS AND EXTENSIONS
A trip to the green hills and forests of Uganda combines perfectly with a trip to see the pyramids and other ruins along the upper Nile in Egypt or Ethiopia, or search for the great plains animals in the Masai Mara or the Serengeti in Kenya and Tanzania.
