Farley Taylor Lansing

Farley on Safari

Farley represents the third generation of adventurous spirits in the travel business. Her grandmother, Valerie Kent, was one of the first women to guide safaris in East Africa and her mother, Anne, followed suit and has now been in the business for over 40 years. Farley has traveled with both Valerie and Anne since she was two years old and now knows intimately their favorite places.

Farley was born and raised in Montana where her love of wide open spaces, the outdoors, wildlife, and adventure was cultivated. Her parents felt that travel was the best education and never hesitated to take Farley and her older sister Marett out of school to accompany them on safari in Africa or elsewhere. She attended boarding school at The Lawrenceville School and had a distinguished tennis career at the University of Texas-Austin, where her team won the NCAA Division I National Championship and she was a three-time All American and ranked as high as #1 in the country in doubles.

In 1988, Farley and her sister Marett went on an exploratory year long trip to virtually every corner of the world in order to complete their training in the travel business. They used a mix of escorted group tours where appropriate, and private customized itineraries where they had special interests and where it was safe for two young women to be on their own. Farley ended up with training not only on the world and its many marvels, but also on the type of expectations her future clients would have. Simply put, they learned how to make a trip operate seamlessly and they learned the attention to detail which makes this happen. Subsequently Farley has designed similar complicated trips for many of their guests.

Farley and Marett’s trip captured the following areas:

Australia - Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Cairns, Great Barrier Reef
New Zealand - North and South Island
Bali - Ubud in a private boutique hotel
China and Hong Kong - Shanghai, Beijing, Guilin and a cruise on the Yangzi River
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
India -Agra (Taj Mahal), Varanasi, Jaipur, Udaipur, tiger viewing in Ranthambore National Park
Nepal - A trek along the ’Prince Charles’ route, Kathmandu, and tiger viewing in Chitwan National Park
Kenya – A safari with the family for Christmas
South America - Chile and the magnificent ’Seven Crossings’ to Argentina (Bariloche and Buenos Aires), Peru (including Macchu Pichu and Cusco), Brazil (including Sao Paulo, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, and the Amazon)
Galapagos Islands - with its incredible birds and wildlife that are totally without fear of humans
Europe - a self driving tour of Italy, France, Spain, and Belgium

After this expedition, Farley knew that travel was in her blood and would forever be her passion. She literally learned the business at her mother’s knee during her childhood and officially joined her mother in A.K. Taylor International in 2001. She has been an integral part of all aspects of the company since then from traveling throughout the world with and on behalf of clients to dealing with the planning and logistical details of each individual trip. She specializes in honeymoons, active adventure travel, African safaris, multi-generational family trips to many destinations and, of course, around the world trips.

Farley married Stuart Lansing on June 10, 2006 at the HF Bar Ranch in Wyoming. She then set a new standard for A.K. Taylor International by organizing, with the help of her sister Marett (who works for Abercrombie and Kent) a tented safari for over 55 friends and family which culminated in a Maasai Wedding Ceremony in the Masai Mara. They now make their home in Chicago where Farley is now the Vice President of the company and is taking on a growing management role.
